As we all know coffee is very popular (it is the 2nd most popular drink in the world after water!)

Established brands promoting Green Teas, Matcha, Adaptogenic mushroom coffees and supplements are keen to dent the worlds coffee obsession – often citing “jitters & crashes” as a reason to avoid it.

However, these brands hide the fact that “jitters & crashes” are often caused by over consuming caffeine, which is easy to do if you don’t know how much you are consuming.

By adhering to coffee science – depending on weight, size, tolerance, how your body methylates and processes caffeine and so on – you can avoid these feelings and still enjoy a caffeinated coffee.

According to the science of coffee, the general rule suggests that you should have no more than 200mg caffeine in your body at any one time to avoid these feelings.

Swiss Water Decaffeinated Coffee

What is the Swiss Water Decaf Process and why is it better than regular decaf processes?

The Swiss Water process is an organic, 100% chemical-free option for decaffeination. It was discovered in the 1930s in Schaffhausen, Switzerland, and is commercialised by the Swiss Water Decaffeinated Coffee Company Inc, founded in 1988.

This method does not require the addition of chemicals, instead relying on a super saturated green coffee solution called Green Coffee Extract (GCE).

To decaffeinate coffee, fresh GCE is introduced to a batch of green coffee. As the GCE is already saturated with all the water-soluble compounds found in green coffee, minus the caffeine, the matching molecules won’t diffuse out of the coffee beans—but the caffeine will. The flavour is retained in the beans while the caffeine is removed.

Thanks to some scientific genius, it’s possible to have decaf coffee that tastes the same – just without the caffeine!

Brewing Methods

Filter coffee is also one of the healthiest brewing methods because it has a lower amount of diterpenes than unfiltered coffee. Unfiltered coffees can increase LDL (bad) cholesterol.

The key to avoiding jitters or crashes during the day is to make sure you have no more than 200mg of caffeine in your body (300mg if you have a high tolerance to caffeine) at any one time (depending on your height and build).
